OUR LEGACY
At the heart of Thom Kight & Company lies the vision and compassion of its founder, Thomas Keight — affectionately known as The Gentleman Undertaker.
Born in England in 1943, Thomas began his journey into funeral service at just 16, apprenticing with a local funeral director. Over five years, he mastered every aspect of the profession — from handcrafting coffins and embalming to conducting services and becoming a qualified monumental mason.
After emigrating to South Africa in 1968, Thomas brought his quiet strength and meticulous standards to the Homes Trust Group, and later to Wilmots in Johannesburg. But it was in 1981, with encouragement from doctors and ministers who saw the need for a more personal, dignified approach to funerals, that he founded Thom Kight & Company.
In December 2015, Thomas passed away suddenly from a heart attack. His legacy lives on through his son, Neil Keight, who worked alongside him for 25 years and now leads the company with the same grace and dedication.
